NSW Police shared a post to their social media on May 15 urging people not to click on any link received from the scammers.
"COLES SCAM ALERT," the post read.
"Stay vigilant - there's a current scam in circulation regarding Coles rewards."
The scam message reads: "Oi mate, your Coles rewards points are on the blink. Get em' redeemed before they vanish", with a link to redeem them.
A Coles spokesperson said people should be "aware of websites, competitions and other unsolicited communications such as text messages that use the Coles brand without Coles' permission or which promote Coles rewards in an attempt to appear legitimate".
"These offers predominantly attempt to collect your personal details or financial information and Coles will never request personal or banking details in unsolicited communications," the spokesperson said.
"We encourage people to report any suspicious communication you may have received to the ACCC via their Scamwatch page."
Social media users also verified they had received the scam.
One person said they thought scammers "using Aussie slang now to make their scams seem more personable" was hilarious.
A second wrote they had been "getting this one like three times a day about Telstra and Coles and Optus".
"Considering Coles uses flybys and not rewards, seems legit," another noted.
